Week 4 Vertigo Post
The scene I found to be exciting and wanted to discuss was around 19:00-23:00 when Scottie is following the "possessed" Madeline. The angle and shot of the scene gives us a point of view shot from Scottie's stand point and how he sees things from the view of his car. Around 19:44 when Madeline's car stops it is suspenseful because we don't know what she is going to do next. Typically, I assumed she knew she was being followed, she drove into an alleyway where no one would see to confront Scottie and what he was doing tailgating her, but instead nothing of the sort happened, she just slowly pulled in to park and Scottie just maintained distance. Following the scene when Madeline gets out of her car to go into a building and Scottie follows her up, it gets dark, rarely an emission of light and from the already existing knowledge of suspense, something is about to occur or a discovery is to be made, Madeline goes into a florist; she is buying some flowers, but we do not know who they are for and also the many color distinctions help us notice the many flower colors and how colorful this scene in the florist shop is. I liked all the nice colors. The music also adds to the already existing suspense theme because it peaks when something is going or about to happen and calms down and mellow when there is nothing suspenseful in the scene. It makes us anticipate what is going to happen next and also aids us in how we are to feel about the scene.
