Vertigo w4 (/mm)
Above all else, Hitchcock is particularly well known if not for his suspense but his incredible attention to detail. All of his movies show his unique auteur abilities in his careful crafting of every single shot and frame of his films. In Vertigo there is a particular scene that he shows attention to detail and incorporates careful planning. The rooftop scene where Scottie (James Stewart) slips and hangs dearly for his life on a slanted gutter, Hitchcock carefully shows the breaking of the gutter seconds before when the police office (Fred Graham) stumbles slightly at the exact same spot loosening the gutter. When Scottie makes the same jump he stumbles slightly as well and actually breaks off a portion of the gutter and hangs precariously as Graham returns to assist him. This whole altercation leads to the death of the officer who slips while attempting to help Scottie. Hitchcock's attention to detail
